Ali bomaye!

Wednesday 10 July 2013

In one of the weirder mix of sports and popular culture, DC put out a "Superman vs. Muhammad Ali" comic book in 1978.

The plot deals with hostile aliens, but the real highlight is the beating Superman gets in a sparring match with the trash-talking Ali.

Get your hotdogs!

In 2004, a California woman literally bit the bullet. In fact, she bit two—and they both came from the same hot dog. She was eating a hot dog from a local Costco when she suddenly found herself chewing metal. At first, she thought her braces had come loose, but a closer inspection revealed a live 9mm bullet hiding inside the hot dog. This was not a good thing, considering that live bullets can sometimes explode from such impact. And it gets worse: when she later visited a doctor for stomach pains, an X-ray revealed a second live round that she had swallowed without noticing. Luckily, doctors said she was in no danger and the bullet would just come out the usual way. Perhaps the strangest thing about the incident is that no one knows how the bullets got there. The police investigated all the other hot dogs at the food court but found no further contaminations. Even the CEO of Costco said the incident is “regrettable, but difficult to understand.”

Panamanian Golden Frog

Tuesday 9 July 2013

An amazing species of frog named Panamanian Golden Frog does not possess ears, but rather they listen with the help of their lungs. Yes, those lungs multi-task for them in the most amazing way. These frogs are not the only species with the same functionality but there are many fish that also hear in the same manner.

Another sad post.

The U.S. government has made some parts of Arizona off limits to U.S. citizens because of the threat of violence from Mexican drug smugglers. The federal government has actually posted signs more than 100 miles north of the Mexican border warning travellers that certain areas are unsafe because of drug and immigrant smugglers.

Shame really.

In 2010, Americans waste an astounding amount of food. According to a study by the California Integrated Waste Management board, 63 percent of the average supermarket's waste stream is food. When you break that down, it means that each supermarket wastes approximately 3,000 pounds of food each year.

I can't help but like this

South Koreans believe that people should hide their shoes on the first night of the New Year. Otherwise, a ghost will try one of the shoes, and if it finds a pair that it likes, the ghost will take it and the owner of those shoes will have bad luck all year.

Who you gonnna call...

More you don't want to know about food...

From yoghurt, jams, sweets, and tomato products, you've probably consumed at least one kilo of red dye in your life. That means that you've also ingested at least 70,000 cochineal beetles, according to survey in america. The beetle is crushed and used to make red dye.
Isinglass, or dried fish bladder, gives beer its golden glow. The BBC has done a piece on the substance since it is primarily used in British beers.
One more thing, L-Cysteine is an amino acid often used in dough conditioners, as a siftening agent when mass-producing breads. It is made from human hair or duck feathers. Although 80 percent of L-cysteine is made of human hair, it is said that McDonald's uses the duck feather variety in its Baked Hot Apple Pie's

Hey Mr sandman... ♫

In a recent sleep study, students who were awakened at the beginning of each dream, but still allowed their 8 hours of sleep, all experienced difficulty in concentration, irritability, hallucinations, and signs of psychosis after only 3 days. When finally allowed their REM sleep the student’s brains made up for lost time by greatly increasing the percentage of sleep spent in the REM stage.
Psychosis - A severe mental disorder in which thought and emotions are so impaired that contact is lost with external reality.

Football, the beautiful game.

Pele was actually the first to call Football "the beautiful game".
The sport of Association Football (often referred to as soccer or simply football) is the most popular team sport in the world, in both number of spectators and number of active participants.
Football is called football in practically every country except America, who call 'Grid Iron' football and football soccer.
The world's oldest club formed in 1857 is Sheffield FC (Metro FC was established in 1899, making it one of the oldest clubs in NZ) it was founded by Colonel Nathaniel Cresswick and Major William Priest, two British Army officers.
The largest attendance for a Football match ever was 199,854 people - Brazil v. Uruguay in the World Cup at the Maracana Municipal Stadium, Rio de Janeiro, July 1950.

Buzz Aldrin's mother's maiden name was Moon.
When Alan Sheppard was on the moon, he hit a golf ball and drove it 2,400 feet, nearly one half a mile
The moon rotates at 10 miles per hour compared to the earth's rotation of 1000 miles per hour.
In a survey conducted in 1988, 13% of those surveyed believed that the moon is made of cheese.

Cracking!

Around 3,000 B.C. is when we find the first real evidence of manufactured glass by people. The Mesopotamia, Egypt, Syria were hubs of glass making. But you can thank an ancient Roman for the fact for glass in your everyday life. Because of their empire-making ways, Romans spread a more modern glass manufacturing knowledge to its newly conquered lands.
Am I supposed to be thankful to the Romans...

Smashing, get it?

The dark green wine bottle was an English invention, the work of Sir Kenelm Digby (1603-1665), a Catholic polymath and diplomat, who also managed his family's coal-fired gasworks. Previously wine had been kept in goat skin bags. In 2008 the British drank 1.66 billion bottles of wine. Even so, we still drink half as much wine per head as the French (but three times as much as Americans).
I struggle to believe some of this... I can't imagine the Brits drinking three times as much wine as country the times it's size - Doesn't add up, but, someone where called it a fact. So here it is.

The Useless Body part?

Sunday 7 July 2013

The appendix gets a bad press. It is usually treated as a body part that lost its function millions of years ago. All it seems to do is occasionally get infected and cause appendicitis. Yet recently it has been discovered that the appendix is very useful to the bacteria that help your digestive system function. They use it to get respite from the strain of the frenzied activity of the gut, somewhere to breed and help keep the gut's bacterial inhabitants topped up. So treat your appendix with respect.

What I didn't know about food...

Worcestershire sauce, the popular English sauce, is made from dissolved anchovies. The anchovies are soaked in vinegar until they have completely melted...
Even the bones.
About 75 acres of pizza are eaten in the U.S. Everyday. That’s 1172 miles worth...
Dynamite is made from peanuts... Peanut oil can be worked to produce glycerol, which can then be used to make nitro-glycerine, one of the constituents of dynamite. There are absolutely no other processes of dynamite making without using peanuts.
So who figured that out!? Was it an accident?...

I never knew architecture could be so romantic

The most beautiful and incredible gift of love is the monument Taj Mahal in India. Built by Mughal Emperor Shahjahan as a memorial to his wife it stands as the emblem of the eternal love story. Work on the Taj Mahal began in 1634 and continued for almost 22 years and required the labour of 20,000 workers from all over India and Central Asia.
This made me think, the Freudian interpretation perspective based on the shape of the building; she must have been hot...

I'm not certain this is a fact...

To take an oath, ancient Romans put a hand on their testicles; that’s where the word “testimony” comes from.
The theories funny enough though.

Pucker up.

Did you know that kissing creates feel-good chemicals in our bodies that help us feel relaxed? Research shows that kissing increases levels of Oxytocin in our bodies, which is a natural calming chemical, and increases endorphins. Dopamine levels can also increase, leading to happy feelings of romantic attachment.
Can anyone else see the irony, a nervous guy who can't talk to girls... might loose his nervous disposition by kissing one. Cruel world.

Serving another delicious fact

In some Micronesian cultures, sweat is thought of as a warrior’s essence. To drink such an essence, is considered a great honour.

Don't forget to take The Zlake challenge!

Saturday 6 July 2013

Test yourself....Take the Zlake challenge!

Something charming about this.

Darts was once considered a game of chance, until it was formally brought to a magistrate. An ‘expert’ was asked to hit triple 20, he did so repeatedly, and this as proof that it was a game of skill. The game was previously used to make bets thinking what you hit on the board was complete luck.

Yelling = energy X (population of London) = ?

If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days, you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.
Energy crisis, hahaha, not anymore!
